networking   projects

The strength of the whole is usually greater than the sum of its parts. This basic idea is what underpins the Networking project.

If we are successfully to raise the position of the muslim community within society, then this can only happen if we support each other across the whole spectrum of activities that we engage in every day. Networking is about people coming together to meet, talk, socialise and provide that support for one another. This can be through something as simple as extending the hand of friendship, or providing access to a network of contacts or even financial backing for business ventures.

By harnessing the knowledge and contact networks we each have, the power base of the muslims community can be increased. Through it we can begin to influence and penetrate the institutions that we work in, that govern us and that we rely on and move them in a positive direction. The traditional approach to bridging the gap between living an Islamic life and modern society has been isolationist. But this is not only defeatist, it is also counter-productive. A more creative approach is needed where we lead by example and work to influence those around us in softer ways.

Through networking we hope to harness and channel these ideas to build a stronger framework for our community to operate in.
