Event Review
Friday the 19th December 2003 saw yet another hour of unsupervised football fumbling. The session started with informal stretching and warm ups, superbly improvised by the group.

This was swiftly followed by some dribble, pass and score exercises that Clare the coach put us through. After this, it was clear that most people had forgotten what she had taught us as the footballs were hit left right and centre but not in the intended direction!

As it was 4 a side, the decision was made to play the ‘no goaly’ version - where you need to be in the oppositions semi circle to score. The captains huddled their teams around for a final motivational talk . If this game was to be taken seriously then swift talking was required to convince certain members that they couldn’t swap teams because there bibs clashed with their outfits J The game then commenced!

Blues started well, eventually getting a goal past the fumbles of Samira. Tahira, then faught back against the rest of the Kulsoom clan to equalise! Summreen replied with a wonderful Becks like goal shot from the middle of the hall! Although a fantastic goal, it was disallowed as it was out of the area! This fired up the captain of the blues to eventually get the ball through the grips of Sameena to score.

The game continued to see a number of awkward, high tension tackles around the edges of the hall as neither team were prepared to give anything away. Surresh (in sympathy) donated her pink Barbie tiara to the Red team for luck as they lagged behind 1-2.

However, this was not enough for the Red’s and Mani went on to provide the equaliser they needed. Shorlty after, Naila won a tackle that saw the ball in the back of the net yet again and it was clear that the Blue’s had the edge on ball handling techniques!!

The game was stopped at one point when one of Tahira’s controversial overhead kicks knocked the classes off Thameena. The ball continued to fly high during the game. The blues captain got her own back however, by not one, but two hand balls! These were executed well as play continued despite the obvious fouls (just like a certain other captain in blue who earned his place in history!)

The Blues went on to win 3-2 and the game was not short of tight tackles and nifty nudges! The Reds left the hall defeated but not deflated as they will be geared up for a rematch in the new year.
