IMAAD, in collaboration with BK Solicitors, presents:

Islamic Will-Making

Date
5th September 2004, 15:15 - 18:00

Objective
In the UK, only one in three people have been found to have made a valid will at the time of their death. Research suggests that in the Muslim
community this figure is substantially lower. Without having made a will, the government decides on how your wealth is to be distributed in accordance with the English Law. There is therefore a clear need to raise awareness of this within the community whose members may want their wealth distributed according to Sharia (Islamic Law).

The talk will be presented by Haroon Rashid of BK Solicitors. Practical advice on the stages of making such a will, from evaluating one’s assets to
keeping the will up-to-date, will be given. The audience will be given the opportunity to ask specific questions with regards to the subject.

Event Review
The talk was presented by Haroon Rashid of BK Solicitors who began by highlighting the importance of making a will and describing the differences
between the UK law and Shariah. He laid out the five fundamental points of why one should have a Shariah compliant will and went on to look at a simple case study showing the benefits of having a tax efficient Islamic will.

The talk was followed by a Q&A session which lasted much longer then the allocated time giving some indication that the audience, who comprised of both men and women of varying ages, found the talk informative and engaging. The evening concluded by refreshments being served during which people had the opportunity to question the speaker on a one to one basis. A will making guide and other literature was also available on the day.

Venue
Maiden Place Community Centre, Maiden Place (off Kilnsea Drive), Lower Earley
