An Evening with George Galloway

Date
1930 - 2130, 24th March, 2004

Objective
George Galloway is one of the most visible backbenchers in the House of Commons, with a strong line in fiery oratory and a skill for enthusiastic denunciation.

His major political interests, and the ones which cause the most controversy, are international, where he is a self-styled friend of oppressed countries and opponent of Western imperialism.

Last year the Labour Party expelled Mr Galloway. He faced five charges relating to a television interview during the war in which he condemned UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush for invading Iraq. Scottish National Party Westminster parliamentary leader Alex Salmond said: "George Galloway has been expelled for his views, rather than for the way he expressed them.

Mr Galloway will be speaking most pertinently about the legality of the war in Iraq amongst a host of related issues, corresponding to British and American foreign policies.
